Roses & Peonies-Hand painted Dentalium Earrings

These earrings are definitely a statement piece, but they are also deeply personal.

Each pair features dentalium shells measuring 2 inches in length, hand-dyed using our three-day house process. The shells are then finished with my hand-painted floral work, a style I began creating as a way to honor my grandmother, Rose.

Initially I created the concept of hand painted floral art in honor of my grandmother Rose. It was a way for me to grieve and heal from her passing. Like many Native families our grandmas are the ones who keep the family together. I can still feel the power of my grandmas prayers working today. And that’s why these are so special and sacred to me. 

Overtime its grown into something more, it’s a way that I like to honor all the strong women in our lives. Our grandmas, moms, aunties, sisters, daughters.  So this style isn’t about a craft or money but about honoring our family and the women in our lives. It’s about remembrance and gratitude and love.
